Old-style content (evergreen content) that stays the same forever doesn’t work well anymore. Search engines like Google now want fresh, new content that talks about what’s happening right now.

AI tools like ChatGPT also look for the newest information first. If you only write content that never changes, you’ll lose out to competitors who write about current events and trending topics.

Fresh content shows that you’re active in your industry and know what’s going on. Both Google and your readers prefer this over old, outdated articles.

How to Create Timely Content That Works

Finding Good News Sources You Can Trust

The first step is to select trusted sources for your content. They can be from anywhere. Our recommendations are:

  • Official announcements from official websites of a reputation company in your industry.
  • Social media posts on Linkedln, X, Youtube, etc. from trusted experts.
  • Google News and Google Trending are good channels to find latest information.
  • Blog posts or articles from your competitors. You can use “skyscraper” technique.
  • Trending posts on forums like Reddit, Quora, etc.

After finding good source, you need to set up an automation flow that send you daily news or you can spend time searching manually. You can search online and get some ideas for the automation. We just want to share with you a few ideas:

Google Alerts Setup

  1. Go to google.com/alerts
  2. Type your main keyword + “news” (example: “digital marketing news”)
  3. Click “Show options”
  4. Set “How often” to “As-it-happens” or “Once a day”
  5. Set “Sources” to “News”
  6. Set “Language” and “Region” to your target market
  7. Enter your email and click “Create Alert”
  8. Repeat for 5-10 different keywords

Social Media Monitoring

LinkedIn/X: Follow key industry publications and thought leaders. Turn on notifications for their posts.

You can save posts that you think it is a good source for article.

Reddit, Quora: Subscribe to 3-5 relevant subreddits, sort by “Hot” daily.

RSS Feed Setup Using Feedly:

  1. Sign up for free Feedly account
  2. Search for your top 5 industry websites
  3. Click “Follow” on each one
  4. Create folders like “Breaking News,” “Industry Analysis,” “Competitors”
  5. Set up email digest to arrive at 8 AM daily
  6. Check mobile app during commute or breaks

Making Sure News Is True Before You Publish

Check Your Facts:

  1. Find at least 3 different sources saying the same thing
  2. Look at when the story was published to make sure it’s current
  3. Double-check names, numbers, and quotes
  4. Make sure company names are spelled right
  5. Add warnings if the story is still developing

Watch Out For:

  • Stories from only one source
  • Claims that sound too crazy to be true
  • Websites known for fake news
  • Information that doesn’t match what you already know

Adding Your Expert Opinion

Show You Know What You’re Talking About:

  • Start with the facts, then add your thoughts with phrases like “We think this means…”
  • Reference other similar stories you’ve covered before
  • Share examples from your work experience (with permission)
  • Explain how this news affects your industry

Ways to Add Your Opinion:

  • Use headings like “What This Means” or “Our Take”
  • Give practical advice: “Businesses should…”
  • Make predictions: “We expect…”
  • Compare to similar events from the past

Writing So AI Can Find Your Content

Make It Easy for AI to Understand:

  • Use headings that ask questions people would search for
  • Write a clear summary in the first few sentences
  • Use bullet points and numbered lists
  • Add a FAQ section with common questions
  • Include dates and locations when relevant

Technical Tips:

  • Add special code that tells search engines this is news
  • Write good descriptions for images
  • Create short summaries for search results
  • Link to other articles on your website
  • Write in a way that can appear in Google’s answer boxes

How to Structure Your Article:

  • Put the most important news first
  • Keep paragraphs short (2-3 sentences)
  • Use quotes to highlight important points
  • End with what readers should do next

Conclusion

Writing good news articles means being fast but accurate, mixing facts with your expert thoughts, and making content that both people and AI can easily understand. Companies that do this well will get more website visitors and become trusted sources in their industries.
