Payment security is essential for protecting your store from fraudulent transactions. Shopify Payments offers built-in fraud prevention tools to help verify card details during checkout.

How to set up payment security features

To set up payment security features in your Shopify store, follow these steps:

  1. Access your Shopify admin and navigate to Settings > Payments.
  2. Locate the Shopify Payments section and click Manage.
  3. Find the Fraud prevention area where you can activate these security options:
    • Decline charges that fail CVV verification: Automatically rejects transactions when the card verification value doesn’t match bank records.
    • Decline charges that fail AVS postal code verification: Automatically blocks payments when the address verification system postal code fails to match.
  4. Select Save to confirm your fraud prevention settings.

Conclusion

These security settings help reduce fraudulent transactions by automatically declining payments that fail verification checks. Note that not all banks support AVS and CVV checks, so some legitimate orders may still process without these verifications.
