The gnome-demic has hit retail. Scurrying gnomes have infiltrated big brand stores, and reactions are well.. mixed. If you don’t know what I’m talking about by now, well done to you for skipping on the TikTok and Instagram reels binge-ing. I suggest you leave right now before you get sucked into the void of videos where crawling gnomes visit.
The Lowdown on the Meme: Crawly, the Tiny Green Mall Wizard 🧙♂️
Crawly, a grown man dressed as a green wizard, has taken TikTok by storm and become the “meme of the summer.” With his signature soundtrack and pranks in public places, Crawly’s videos have gone viral, amassing millions of views and inspiring parodies. His TikTok account, @crawly_possessed, boasts over 3.1 million followers. The character’s popularity even led to a collaboration with YouTuber IShowSpeed and spawned the “gnome vs knight” meme.
For retailers, this presents opportunity, like brands such as KFC (Spain), H&M (over 80 million views in a week) & Currys have seized upon (poorly executed sorry). Or it presents risk, we’re talking disgruntled customers and potentially some health and safety lawsuits.
