Changing your Shopify store’s currency is essential for global sellers. While the default is USD, you can display prices in various currencies to cater to international customers.

What you should do before chaning the currency

Before getting started, store owners should go through this note:

  1. Any currency can be selected, regardless of your location.
  2. Consider legal and tax implications; consult an accountant if necessary.
  3. Changing currency affects product prices, discounts, and financial reports.
  4. Shipping rates and some apps may need manual updates.
  5. Pending payments and refunds may be affected.

How to change currency in Shopify site

It’s quick and easy to do.

  1. Go to Settings -> General
  2. Then at the Store defaults section, look for the Currency display
  3. Select your desired currency from the dropdown.
  4. Click Save.

After changing, you should check:

  1. Review and update product pricing.
  2. Add new shipping rates.
  3. Update markets if not using Shopify Payments.
  4. Check customer balances and gift cards.

How to manage exchange rate in Shopify

How do you know which currency your customers will see? Shopify has a feature that allows you to check this information. You can find it at:

  1. In the Store default box, check this line “To manage the currencies customers see, go to Markets”
  2. Click the Markets and you will see the list of country/region are in your markets current
  3. Go to Product and Pricing
  4. Find Manage exchange rate
  5. You will have two options which are Default and Manual. Pick the one that is suitable for you to manage the currency rate.
  6. Save to complete everything.
